Players' Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct is intended to provide information and guidance for all players, on and off the volleyball court, who represent Birmingham University Volleyball Club at any level of participation.
BUVC players shall adhere at all times to standards of personal and professional behaviour which reflect positively BUVC. Players should welcome evaluation of their performance by their peers and coaches and be able to account to their coach, BUVC, University Sport Birmingham and Volleyball England.
Each Player is reminded that he/she is solely responsible for his/her conduct when representing the BUVC. Any breach of conduct will be reviewed by the Club’s Committee and could result in expulsion from the Club.
- Players’ obligations to BUVC
- Set a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters.
- Encourage further development of other club members, whether this be in a coaching, playing or umpiring capacity.
- Respect all facilities and equipment, and be accountable for all equipment used during training sessions and matches.
- Wear clean, neat and tidy clothes while traveling and or attending official functions.
- Show respect for The University of Birmingham property and equipment, for its sport and recreation facilities, for other users of its facilities, and for its sport and recreation staff.
- Shall not distribute or encourage the use of illegal drugs, stimulants and other substances with a view to modifying or altering growth, behavior or performance.
- Assist other squad/team members to understand and adhere to the BUVC Code of Conduct for Players
- Player’s obligations to their team and coach
- Make every effort to develop their own sporting abilities, in terms of skill, technique, tactics and stamina.
- Give maximum effort and strive for the best possible performance during a game, even if the team is in a position where the desired result has already been achieved.
- Promptly notify the coach of any existing condition, illness or injury which may develop or occur that may hinder the player's continued training and participation in the sport.
- Co-operate with the coach, Club Committee and teammates at all times.
- Be early for trainings and games, allowing these to start on time by ensuring taping is done beforehand, water bottles filled etc. and being correctly attired for the session.
- Always let the coach know if you can't attend training or team commitments or will be late.
- Resist any temptation to take banned substances.
- Players’ obligations to the game and competition rules
- Always have regard for the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion on the game and any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game.
- At all times accept the Match Official’s decision. Players must not show dissent towards any decision or react in a provocative or disapproving manner towards a Match Official at any time.
- Players shall not intimidate, assault or attempt to intimidate or assault a Match Official, another player or a spectator.
- Players shall not use crude and/or abusive language nor make offensive gestures or hand signals nor deliberately distract an opponent either verbally or by harassment with persistent clapping or unnecessary noise under the guise of enthusiasm and motivation of one’s own side.
- Players shall not make racially abusive comments nor indulge in racially abusive actions against fellow players, officials, members and supporters.
- Avoid all forms of gamesmanship and time-wasting.
- Accept success and failure, victory and defeat, equally.
- Know and abide by the Laws, rules and spirit of the game, and the competition rules.
