?7k Grant for School-Club Links
Tuesday 9th October 2007
As the Club prepares for the hectic season ahead more good news in that we were successful in bidding for a grant from the Local Network Fund for nearly ?7000. This is a huge boost for the Club?s five-year junior development plan that envisages establishing five or six volleyball ?centres? at local schools.
This grant will be used to approach local schools and offer some free coaching in the short-term to see if there are enough interested children in those schools to establish a permanent after-school volleyball session. The majority of the grant, just over ?3500, is to pay for a suitable junior coach to establish those sessions. There are also funds for Young Leaders Course, junior volleyball equipment, minibus hire to bring children to watch national league games, and organise a schools tournament at the University.
In addition to giving the junior volleyball plan a boost, just over ?1000 of the grant will go towards establishing the Club?s first sitting volleyball sessions, and will be used to purchase specialist equipment and have publicity material produced to promote sitting volleyball amongst interested groups. Tracy Shervington, the Club?s Disability Awareness Officer, is taking the lead on this project and aims to run the first sitting volleyball session some time in January.
