Welcome to the 2009-2010 Season

Welcome back from everybody at the University of Birmingham Volleyball Club. We hope everybody has a good summer and is ready for the new season to begin and continue the success of last year.

The summer has seen some changes within the club. The Men’s National League team will be coached by Graham Fowler this season meaning that they will be given a wealth of coaching experience in order to aid their push towards Division 2. The Men’s National League second team has this season dropped out of the Division 3N and will be plying their trade in the West Midlands Division 1. We hope that this team can show the strength of the club within the regional league. Fabrizio Marrama will continue coaching the women's national Division One team, although the Women’s National League second team will, for the time being, be coached by Graham Fowler giving them the chance to benefit from his coaching methods in their push towards the top of their league.

Howard Hoare will be taking charge of the women's regional team in their first season in Division 1, and Joe Ng will continue as coach of the men's regional team competing in Division Two, after getting them promoted from Divison 3 last season.

The committee personnel has also changed and with the new committee in place, including brand new Club Captain, Peter Murray, this promises to be a successful season for the club. Peter will be joined by James Bodkin, Joe Ng, Howard Hoare, Rachel Copestake, Tracy Shervington and Kieron Bradley.

With the new students arriving at the University in two weeks we will begin to see new faces around the club and also begin to see the intensity of training sessions pick up. The season begins on Saturday 12th September with the Women’s National League First team playing Ashcombe at Aston University which is then followed by the Women’s National League second team playing a home fixture against Coventry on Sunday 13th September. This season also sees the men entering the National Cup with a home game against second division team Solvent awaiting them in the first round.

This is a truly exciting time of the year within the club as it gives us chance to promote the club to new players, potential sponsors around the city and with the school programme beginning this week it is a chance put the sport on the map.
