The club's national league teams are looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Volleyball England is to re-structure to English National League at the end of the 2009-2010 season. This is to create more competitive leagues and allow teams to play at a level that most suits them. The decision was taken towards the end of last year and all clubs have now been provided with the details of the changes.

The changes will see the creation of a new Super 8 league which will see the top 8 teams in the country for men and women compete against each other. This should allow for more competetion in England's top league and show a higher standard of volleyball in the country as we approach the 2012 olympics.

The changes will see National 1 remain in place. It will contain 10 teams playing each other twice, home and away during the season. National League 2 will be split into 2 geographical conferences, North and South. Teams will play teams in their conference twice, home and away, and teams in the other conference once either home or away. Finally National League 3 will remain the only league to play triangular weekends will be split equally into 4 conferences, North East, North West, South West and South East. Teams will also play each other twice over the course of the season.

It is hoped that these changes will increase the national appeal of volleyball both as a spectator sport and a participation sport with them offering players more chances to develop their skills on a national scale. The University of Birmingham Volleyball Club looks forward to participating in the newly re-structured league and continuing the success that our teams have had in the league with the current format.
