BUCS Girls gain first win of season
Wednesday 10th November 2010

Elise David-Bordier hits back court for Birmingham.
After three defeats in a row for the women's BUCS team were absolutely determined to gain their first victory against Cranfield. With a clear 3:0 we dominated throughout the game. A slightly changed starting six began concentrated in their actions. Quickly we were in a clear lead against a badly organised team from Cranfield. Good sets of Ildegrada Da Costa Cabral and well placed attacks on Cranfield's court finished the first set 25:7.
The second set started like the first one ended and Cranfield was struggling to return the serve. After a series of serves from Hannah Spofforth against a communication lacking team who made a lot of unforced mistakes we extended our lead to 13:3. Despite a better organisation from the middle of the set onwards Cranfield couldn't gain more than six additional points to 25:9.
After last week's experience of losing 3:2 after a 2 set lead we had to keep concentrated and the rate of mistakes low. Although Cranfield played up to its best performance of the entire game they didn't have a chance to turn around the game and lost the third set as well 25:11.
Without losing the lead once during the entire game the womens' BUCS team highly deserved this victory. Especially the newcomers on court performed well and made a big contribution to this very first victory. Now the team has to show well in the next games that we can beat better teams as well in order to stay in Division One.
