Men's NVL Firsts Vs. Middlesbrough Mavericks

First game of the season; It was a case of trying to work out our rotations and getting used to playing with each other. With Grant being the only English player on court, the team accent was mainly French (again!). Middlesbrough were a tall, young side that were currently top of the table.

The first set Birmingham went ahead early on, but with a roll of receiving errors brought Middlesbrough back in it. Eventually Birmingham battled for the win. The second set was the same, but with unforced errors being UoB’s downfall. The third set, Birmingham changed positions, swapping Grant Huddleston to 4 and Jan Potocki to 2. This gave stronger attacking options, and UoB won the third set with Grant and Thegan Moodley winning a lot of the spikes, and Fred Olivo making a lot of blocks.

The fourth set, UoB started badly and where never ahead at all. With the score at 17-22 to Middlesbrough, Huddleston served up 8 points for the win, finishing Middlesbrough off.
