Women's NVL Firsts Vs. Coventry & Warwick Riga I
Sunday 2nd November 2008
In the sixth game of National League the University of Birmingham was beaten by Coventry & Warwick Riga 1 3:0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-13). The match was below the standard at which both teams can usually play.
The first set contained many mistakes from both sides. It was not good for the spectacle to see service mistakes made in a row by the players from one team. UBVC did not seem to be motivated enough to win the match and players lost their concentration quite a few times and it was reflected in their losing several points in a row during the set. Even after several successful rallies they were not able to keep the consistency and the set ended with a victory for Coventry & Warwick Riga 1.
The second set was the best one in the match. It showed fight and belief of two teams that they could win. Good serving by Karolina Dorobisz caused Coventry & Warwick Riga reception problems and it helped UBVC gain a small lead in the set. However, the team was not able to hold the advantage until the end of the set, with Coventry & Warwick Riga making several successful attacks and UBVC failing to cope with the opposite team’s serve, the second set went the way of the first.
The third set was easily won by Coventry & Warwick Riga. UBVC did not show any attempt to fight and it looked as if they gave up in the middle of the set. With this attitude from UBVC, Coventry & Warwick Riga did not have any problems to win point after point. Furthermore, poor reception made it impossible for UBVC to play attacking volleyball and Coventry & Warwick Riga made great use of it. UBVC won only 13 points in the last set, and lost the match 3-0.
