Men's NVL Firsts Vs. Warwick Riga II
Sunday 10th December 2006
Warwick Riga only just beat Nottingham Rockets 3-2, and they showed they have a very strong side with some good players. What was also noticeable was that they had a few lads waiting in the wings who had just retired from their first team, who play Division I.
It was very apparent that Warwick didn't want to lose this game at all. With a very strong squad consisting of a mix of first and second team players, it would stand to be a very good test for the University side. The first set was a battle, with points going each way. The University finally took the first set 25-23. Warwick came out unchanged for the next set, again the set was difficult, and this time Warwick edged out the set, 25-22.
The third set started poorly with some unforced errors from teh University's back-court players. Changes were made by UoB Coach, Graham Fowler, but these did not improve the situation and the University lost the third set, 25-17. UoB started the fourth set unchanged from the third, with three of our normal starting six sitting on the bench. The set got away from the University, until 22-14, where our three starting six were brought back on. However, even with the University winning 7 of the next 9 points, it was all too much too late for the University team to bring the match back, and Warwick won the fourth set 25-21.
